2012 Chevrolet Cruze vs Ford Focus Safety: The front shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Cruze are height-adjustable, and the rear seat shoulder belts have child comfort guides that allow the belt to properly fit children. The Focus only has front height-adjustable seat belts and no child comfort guides. The Focus child locks have to be individually engaged manually at each door. The Cruze, however, has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver’s seat and to know when they are locked. The Cruze also has standard OnStar, which uses a GPS receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you’re locked out, help find your vehicle if it’s stolen or even automatically send emergency personnel to your location if needed. And those are just a sampling of what OnStar offers. The Ford Focus doesn’t have anything comparable to OnStar, offering only a 911 response system that requires a linked cell phone.The Focus only offers 6 airbags as opposed to the Cruze’s impressive 10. The Chevrolet Cruze has automated daytime running Lights to help keep it more visible under any condition. Studies show that driving with lights during the day may reduce accidents by up to 11% by making vehicles more conspicuous. The Focus doesn’t offer daytime running lights at all.

Quality, Reliability and Durability: Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Cruze 40,000 miles longer than Ford covers the Focus. The Cruze’s corrosion warranty is also 1 year longer than the Focus’. The Chevrolet Cruze’s engines use a cast iron block for durability. The Focus uses an aluminum block for its engine, which is more likely to warp and crack than cast iron. J.D. Power and Associates’ continually ranks Chevrolet’s initial quality as better than Ford’s. In their 2011 Initial Quality Study of new car owners Chevrolet ranked 13th in initial quality compared to Ford’s ranking of 23rd. 


2012 Chevrolet Cruze   Power and Performance: The Cruze’s 1.4L turbo engine out performs the Focus accelerating from 0-60 faster. The EPA has found that the Cruze Eco manual transmission gets better fuel mileage than the Focus Manual with 42 highway mpg as opposed to 36 highway mpg offered by the Ford Focus. The Cruze also holds 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Focus—allowing the Cruze a greater maximum fuel range. A six-speed manual is standard on the Chevrolet Cruze. The Cruze’s transmission also uses superior gear ratios for enhanced performance and a lower final drive ratio for quieter highway operation, much less engine wear and better fuel economy. The Focus only offers an inferior five-speed for its manual transmission.
Ride and Handling: The Chevrolet Cruze has emergency brake assistance standard, which greatly helped the driver stop the Cruze faster in an emergency. The Focus fails to offer a brake assist feature. The Cruze offers better traction than the Focus with larger 16” standard wheels whereas the Focus has only 15” wheels standard. Standard handling in the Cruze is also greater than in the Focus because the Cruze LS/LT wheels have a lower profile than the Focus’ standard series tires. Superior handling in the Cruze over the Focus is solidified by the Cruze’s longer wheelbase. The Cruze eliminates engine vibration in the passenger area with liquid-filled engine mounts. The Focus still uses inferior rubber engine mounts causing a rougher ride for passengers.
Interior: The Cruze is rated as a mid-size car by the EPA due to its vast passenger and cargo space, while the Focus is rated as a compact due to its cramped interior and limited cargo capacity.

Safety: The Express Cargo has standard child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The E-Series Van doesn’t offer any child safety locks.The Express Cargo offers available head airbag curtains. Combined with high-strength steel door beams these safety features increase head protection in collisions. The E-Series Van fails to deliver side airbag protection for the head. The Express uses vehicle speed sensors to deploy smart airbags in with the appropriate level of force for the size of the passenger and the intensity of the collision.
The E-Series Van’s airbags don’t have any smart features and will always deploy full force regardless of the type of collision or size of passenger. The Chevrolet Express Cargo has Daytime Running Lights standard to help keep it more visible under all conditions. The E-Series Van fails to offer Daytime Running Lights. The Express Cargo’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder collisions than the Ford E-Series’ metal fuel tank. This prevents gas from leaking, which could prevent a fire.
 
Engine: The Express Cargo simply has consistently more powerful engines than the E-Series Van: The Express Cargo’s 6.6L turbo V8 diesel produces 35 more horsepower  than the E-Series Van’s standard 4.6L SOHC V8; and The Express Cargo’s 6.6 turbo V8 diesel produces 105 lbs.-ft. more torque  than the E-350 Super Duty’s optional 6.8 SOHC V10. The Chevrolet Express Cargo’s 6.6L turbo V8 diesel also has a gear driven camshaft to prevent engine damage from a broken camshaft belt or chain. This makes the engine more durable and protects it from potential damage. The engines in the Ford all use chain driven camshafts, which don’t offer the same level of protection and durability delivered by the Express. The Express Cargo 3500 outperforms the Ford with a higher standard and much higher optional payload capacity than the E-350 Super Duty Extended.
According to the EPA, the Express Cargo RWD 5.3 V8 gets better fuel mileage than the E-Series Van with its standard V8. In addition, for more complete vehicle control the Express Cargo offers an optional manually controlled tap-up tap-down automatic transmission. This option delivers the convenience of an automatic transmission as well as the gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. A six-speed automatic is also available on the Chevrolet Express Cargo, while only a five-speed automatic is available for the Ford E-Series Van.

Suspension and Handling: The Chevrolet Express Cargo’s independent front suspension is far superior to the Ford E-Series Van’s I-beam semi-independent suspension. This allows the Express Cargo’s wheels to react more quickly and accurately to the road, which improves both ride and handling. Moreover, the twin I-beam design is not only less effective—but also more expensive to maintain! The Express also has much better steering than the E-Series. Express Cargo 1500 has rack and pinion steering rather than the inferior recirculating-ball type steering of the E-Series Van. The Express Cargo has variable-assist power steering, for all-around better handling whether you’re in a parking lot or on the freeway. The E-Series Van fails to deliver variable-assist power steering.

For a better ride and more consistent handling, the Express Cargo 2500 wheelbase is 17 inches longer than on the E-Series Van. The Express Cargo also offers all-wheel drive to capitalize on traction under poor conditions, especially in icy weather. The E-Series Van doesn’t offer all-wheel drive and thus offers inferior traction capabilities. The Express Cargo also has larger tires than the E-Series Van which contribute to better traction. The Express Cargo 1500 has standard 17-inch wheels. The E-Series Van’s largest wheels are only 16 inches! The Chevrolet Express Cargo 1500’s wheels also have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Ford E-Series Van only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Interior: The Express is roomier and more comfortable than the E-Series.The Express Cargo 1500 delivers more front legroom and more front shoulder room than the E-150 Regular. The Express also offers superior comfort and accessibility. A low lift-over cargo hatch makes loading and unloading the Express Cargo easier than loading and unloading the E-Series Ford. Adding to the standard right side sliding door, the Chevrolet Express Cargo offers a segment-exclusive driver’s side rear sliding door. This door makes it much easier to load and unload passengers. The E-Series Van, of course, fails to offer a driver’s side rear door.

Warranty: In the end, you know that you are guaranteed nothing short of total excellence with the Chevy Express because it’s backed by the full confidence ofChevrolet’s industry-leading powertrain warranty—which covers the Express 40,000 miles longer than Ford covers the E-Series! The combination of a much bigger gas tank and better fuel efficiency allows the Silverado to out work the Super Duty for much longer, while the Ford requires more frequent stops to refuel.

Drivetrain: The Silverado HD has a authentic four-wheel drive system, which uses a four-wheel traction control system to direct engine power to the specific axle and wheel that has traction. This will keep your Silverado HD keep up and running—even if only one wheel has traction! The F-Super Duty doesn’t have real four-wheel drive. Suspension and Handling: The Chevrolet Silverado HD’s independent front suspension is lighter than the F-Super Duty 4×4’s solid front axle. For an even smoother ride and better handling the Silverado HD’s wheelbase is longer than the F-Super Duty’s.

Brakes and Stopping For better stopping power, the F-Super Duty’s rotors hail in comparison to the Silverado HD’s standard brake rotors. The Silverado HD’s superior rotor size and other factors allow it to stop shorter and faster than the F-Super Duty.

Tires and Wheels: The Silverado HD offers tires with better handling because they have a lower profile that gives a stiffer sidewall than the F-Super Duty’s optional tires.

Interior: The Silverado HD Regular Cab has more front headroom and more front legroom than the F-Super Duty Regular Cab. The Silverado HD Extended Cab also has more front head and leg room well as more rear head and leg room than the F-Super Duty SuperCab. The Silverado HD Crew Cab has more front room than the F-Super Duty SuperCrew. Thus, the Chevy Silverado HD is the more specious and comfortable choice than the Ford Super Duty. The Silverado HD has an all welded cargo box as opposed to the Ford Super Duty’s bolted cargo box. This means that the Silverado HD has a hugely reduced chance of having rust and corrosion throughout its life than the F-Super Duty

Convenience: When the Silverado HD LTZ reverses, both rearview mirrors tilt from their positions giving the driver better rearview vision. The F-Super Duty’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust when backing up. The Silverado HD LTZ has standard automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors that automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them. The F-Super Duty’s side mirrors don’t dim.
