The Silverado’s turbo-diesel is not only very powerful and durable, but also highly efficient. The Silverado has a 36-gallon fuel tank with a traveling range of 680 miles with the diesel engine. That means the Silverado HD is capable of getting around 20 highway mpg! This means the Silverado HD offers substantially more fuel economy than other tucks in its class. Furthermore, the Silverado HD’s diesel engine is capable of running on biodiesel standard. Biodiesel is better for the environment than traditional gasoline and the Silverado’s competitors only offer this feature in limited expensive releases.
The Duramax engine uses the excellent time-tested Allison 6-speed automatic transmission, with tap-up tap-down shift capability and a tow mode. The Allison transmission has sold over one million units. So, like the Duramax engine, the Allison transmission has stood the test of time and evolved into its current, highly impressive incarnation that increases fuel efficiency, power and handling.
