2012 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe and Convertible Suspension Puget Sound Cars

The Corvette Coupe, Convertible and Grand Sport models have a hydroformed steel rail backbone structure. Additionally, the 2012 Corvette is designed with a rear-mounted transmission for balanced weight distribution, which grants greater handling and control. The Corvette Coupe and Convertible come standard with a 4-wheel independent suspension, allowing the Corvette to better adjust to road conditions. The Corvette’s active handling system with traction control automatically engages the cars brakes as needed to help stabilize the Corvette. The Corvette’s variable-ratio power steering allows for optimal control of the car, even at high speeds.  The Corvette Coupe and Convertible comes standard with 18″ front and 19″ rear 5 spoke silver-painted aluminum wheels.
The standard Corvette suspension is tuned with a balance of ride comfort and precise handling in mind. The optional Z16 Performance Package includes extra cooling, stiffer springs and stabilizer bars, shock absorbers, larger brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear cross-drilled rotors, specific tires and Z16-specific six-speed manual when ordered with six-speed manual transmission, or a performance rear axle ratio when ordered with the six-speed paddle shift automatic.

Magnetic Selective Ride Control (MSRC) suspension is optional on the Corvette Coupe and Convertible. The MSRC option features magneto-rheological dampers able to detect road surfaces, and adjust the damping rates to those surfaces almost instantly for optimal ride control. The MSRC suspension option for the Corvette includes larger, cross-drilled brake rotors. MSRC allows the driver to stiffen suspension capability for twisty roads while providing a more compliant ride for city and highway driving with available Magnetic Selective Ride Control. There is an electromagnetic coil inside each damper piston. Particles in the shock fluid are capable of instantaneously bonding, thus allowing the fluid to become stiffen the shock’s damping. While on the other hand, when the electromagnetic field is reduced, the fluid flows liberally, granting effortless suspension movement. The MSRC system allows for two distinctly different cockpit settings: Tour and Sport.
