Chevy Confirmed Production on the Bolt EV

Chevy Bolt

Chevrolet confirmed production of its next-generation pure electric vehicle, based on the Bolt EV concept. The Bolt EV concept was introduced a few months ago at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. “The message from consumers about the Bolt EV concept was clear and unequivocal: Build it,” said Batey, GM North American President “We are moving quickly because of its potential to completely shake up the status quo for electric vehicles.”

Using the industry-leading battery technology found in the Chevrolet Volt and Spark EV, the Bolt EV was developed as a game-changing, long-range pure electric for all 50 states, designed to offer more than a 200 miles of range at a target price of around $30,000. This exciting announcement signals Chevrolet’s commitment to meeting customer demand by delivering an affordable, long-range all-electric vehicle to market.

What’s the difference between AWD, 4WD, RWD, and FWD?

Your Wheels

Vehicles act differently on snow and ice depending on whether they have front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. With winter in full swing, We’d like to provide you with a brief spin through the options. Remember, almost every new vehicle from Chevrolet and Buick includes an electronic traction control system that intervenes automatically to improve performance in slippery conditions.

Front-wheel drive (FWD): Simply put, engine power is channeled to the front wheels to propel the vehicle. FWD is the most popular and prevalent system in the market because its compact setup enhances fuel efficiency and frees up more room inside the vehicle. Plus, the weight of the powertrain is concentrated over the driving wheels, so it offers good traction when it’s slippery.

Rear-wheel drive (RWD): As the name implies, engine power is sent to the rear wheels to propel the vehicle. In passenger cars, RWD reigned until the advent of FWD in the early 1980s. But RWD can more effectively handle higher engine power and higher vehicle weights, which is why it’s still favored in large trucks, larger performance vehicles, purpose-built race cars and law-enforcement pursuit use.

All-wheel drive (AWD): Don’t confuse all-wheel drive with four-wheel drive. Both engage all four wheels, but they’re designed and operate differently. Generally, an AWD drivetrain operates as a FWD or RWD system – most are FWD. AWD system pre-emptively sends power to front and rear axles on every launch to prevent wheel slip, then backs down if no slip occurs. Power is transferred automatically via a single-speed transfer case. (A transfer case connects to the transmission to split power between the front and rear wheels.) The beauty of AWD is no driver effort is needed to activate the system.

Four-wheel drive (4WD or 4×4): Four-wheel drive typically features a two-speed transfer case with high and low ranges for maximum traction. 4WD vehicles typically operate in RWD until four-wheel traction is required; and while most systems are driver-activated, many offer a setting that automatically engages the high range when it’s slippery. The driver must still engage the low range. Found in large, rear-wheel-drive trucks and larger SUVs with additional ground clearance compared to passenger cars and crossovers, 4×4 still provides the best traction and capability in off-road.

Buick’s New Reveals: Avenir and Cascada

At the North American Auto Show in Detroit, Buick unveiled two new stunning cars. The first to roll down the red carpet was the 2016 Buick Cascada Convertible. Buick has not manufactured a convertible in over a quarter of century, and this car is worth the wait. This new convertible four leather seated car offers Buick’s attention to detail and advanced technologies.

Cascada

The Cascada will come equipped with OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot to keep you connected on the go. The top is a traditional fabric roof that can be lowered in 17 seconds while the car is moving at up to speeds of 31 mph. Heated steering wheel and seats will allow the driver to extend the top-down season. A turbo four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission will allow for a sporty drive. Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick said, “It’s a car that will delight customers with its fun spirit and help drive the momentum that’s fueling Buick’s success.” The Cascada is expected to hit our showroom in early 2016.2016-buick-cascada

Everyone loves a surprise at an auto show and Buick delivered with the Avenir concept car. Avenir is French for future and this concept car suggests a future for the Buick brand that is exciting and luxurious. Building on Buick’s 112-year heritage, the Avenir concept strikes the pose for the future of Buick. The sedan was designed to catch your eye and it caught the eye of the auto show.

2016-buick-concept-avenirThe Avenir was presented with the 2015 Eyes on Design Award for “Best Concept Vehicle” at the North American International Auto Show. “Avenir embodies Buick design, which enters on effortless beauty and presence without pretense,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of General Motors Global Design. Production information is still to be released, but we are looking forward to selling this beautiful car.

Scion iQ Hatchback vs 2013 Chevrolet Spark Sumner Cars

Here at Art Gamblin Motors, your Sumner car dealer, we are very excited about Chevrolet’s new mini car: The all-new 2013 Spark! The Spark dominates the mini car segment with more available features, outstanding value and solid performance. This fact is obvious when comparing the Chevy Spark to the Scion iQ Hatchback:

The Scion iQ is a 4-passenger, 2-door hatchback. Available in one trim level only, the well-equipped Scion is marketed as a “premium micro-subcompact.” All Scion iQs are equipped with a 1.3L DOHC 4-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission.

Chevrolet Spark advantages vs. Scion iQ Hatchback

• 5-door body style. All Chevrolet Sparks are 4-door hatchbacks. The Scion iQ is only available as a 2-door hatchback. A 4-door hatchback body style is not offered.

• Choice of transmissions. Spark is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Scion iQ has one transmission available—a continuously variable automatic transmission that has received mixed reviews by the motoring press.

• Standard alloy wheels on all models. All Spark models have standard alloy wheels regardless of trim level. The Scion iQ features standard steel wheels with wheel covers. Aluminum wheels are available as an accessory on Scion iQ for an additional $749.

• Superior value. Not only is Chevrolet Spark 1LT priced $1500 less than Scion iQ Pop ($14,495 vs. $15,995), it’s also better equipped.

• Larger vehicle. Spark’s interior has 12.5 cu. ft. more of passenger volume than Scion iQ. In this class of vehicle, passenger volume is an important factor in determining comfort.

• Cargo versatility. Spark’s cargo area is over three times larger than the Scion iQ cargo area (11.4 cu. ft. vs. 3.5 cu. ft.). Even with the rear seats folded, Spark’s interior seems relatively cavernous compared to the Scion iQ with over 14 cu. ft. more of cargo area (31.2 cu. ft. vs. 16.7 cu. ft).

• More front leg room. Spark has 1.1″ more front leg room.

• Greater rear-seat comfort. The Scion iQ rear seating space pales in comparison to the Spark’s roomier rear seating positions. The Spark has 13.7″ more of rear seat hip room and a whopping 6.6″ more of rear leg room.

• Standard OnStar. Spark’s standard OnStar telematics system provides a suite of services including Automatic Crash Response, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Vehicle Diagnostics and much more. A telematics system is not available on Scion iQ.

• MyLink Radio. Scion iQ has nothing comparable to Spark’s MyLink Radio with its embedded apps. In fact, the Scion’s audio systems do not include a touch-screen.

• Standard rear spoiler. All Chevrolet Sparks include a standard rear spoiler. A rear spoiler is available as an accessory on Scion iQ for an additional $285.

• More speakers. Chevrolet Spark 1LT includes six audio speakers. The Scion iQ has four standard speakers. To get six speakers on Scion iQ, you must order the optional Rear Speaker Package which adds two speakers for an additional $100.

• Superior warranty peace of mind. The Scion 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty can’t compete with the Spark’s 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

• Emergency roadside assistance. Spark owners receive the peace of mind of emergency roadside assistance for five years or 100,000 miles. Scion iQ buyers receive only two years/24,000-miles of roadside assistance.

• Oil Life Monitor. This feature is not offered on Scion iQ.

The Spark is based on an all-new front-wheel drive architecture that incorporates a series of structural enhancements, acoustical refinements, purposeful technologies and attention to detail to deliver consistent quality and appeal.

Ride Quality

The Spark has been designed with applications to reduce vibration and contribute to impressive wind noise performance. The Spar’s stiff structure combined with acoustical applications makes it easier to negate powertrain, road and wind noise to create a smooth and comfortable ride experience. • Overall torsional stiffness is among the best in the Mini Car segment.

• Single-piece body side stampings provide a stiffer, more rigid side structure.

• An acoustic headliner includes a 3-layer polyethylene/felt substrate for superior sound isolation.

• Extensive sealing including dual door seals.

• Tuned air intake and tuned exhaust.

• Additional spot welding enhances long-term rigidity and durability.

• 1.2L engine features a timing chain that never requires any scheduled maintenance.

• Long-life spark plugs contribute to a 100,000-mile tune-up interval.

• Transmissions are filled for life and do not require fluid changes for normal driving conditions.

• Coil-on-plug ignition system eliminates spark plug wires for greater reliability and lower maintenance costs.

• An Oil Life Monitor alerts the driver to the need for an oil change before oil becomes degraded.

• Electronic Power Steering system does not require any fluid checks or top-offs.

• OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics provide automatic email updates with the results of hundreds of checks on engine, transmission, antilock brakes and more.

2012 Ford F-Super Duty vs 2012 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

Silverado HD vs Ford F-350 Superduty

we are aware that we sell nothing less than the best heavy duty trucks on the market here at Chevrolet Sumner, hands down. Though ford continues to try and compete with Chevy, they fail time and time again. The Ford F-Super Duty vs. the Silverado HD is the perfect example.  The Silverado HD has greater power, performance, handling, safety and functionality. Below is simply a brief sampling of some of the ways the Chevrolet Silverado HD dominates the Ford F-Super Duty:

Safety: For additional protection, the front shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Silverado HD are height-adjustable, and the rear seats have child car seat anchors. The Ford F-Super Duty has only front height-adjustable seat belts and child safety anchors. The Silverado HD’s standard pretensioning seatbelts sense rear collisions and tighten the front seatbelts as to protect passengers from injuries including whiplash. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system. The Chevrolet Silverado HD has Daytime Running Lights that keep it visible under all conditions. The F-Super Duty decided not to offer Daytime Running Lights. These are just a few of the superior safety features in the Silverado HD that the Super Duty fails to provide.

Warranty: Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Silverado HD 40,000 miles longer than Ford covers the F-Super Duty! The Silverado HD’s corrosion warranty is also one year longer than the F-Super Duty’s. Clearly Chevrolet is more confident in the quality and durability of the Silverado HD than Ford is of its F-Super Duty.

Fuel Economy and Range The Silverado HD has 10 gallons more fuel capacity than the F-Super Duty Diesel Short Bed’s standard fuel tank! The Chevrolet Silverado HD also has much higher fuel economy compared to the Ford Super Duty. The combination of a much bigger gas tank and better fuel efficiency allows the Silverado to out work the Super Duty for much longer, while the Ford requires more frequent stops to refuel.

Drivetrain: The Silverado HD has a authentic four-wheel drive system, which uses a four-wheel traction control system to direct engine power to the specific axle and wheel that has traction. This will keep your Silverado HD keep up and running—even if only one wheel has traction! The F-Super Duty doesn’t have real four-wheel drive. The Ford can effortlessly get stuck, despite having one or more wheels with traction. The Silverado HD also has a great deal more standard payload capacity than the F-Super Duty. The Crew Cab Silverado HD 3500 4×4 has a payload capacity of 4,190 pounds compared to the Ford Super Duty’s greatly reduced 3,260 pounds of payload capacity! That means the Silverado HD can get work done that the Super Duty just can’t handle.

Suspension and Handling: The Chevrolet Silverado HD’s independent front suspension is lighter than the F-Super Duty 4×4’s solid front axle. This gives the Silverado HD greater capacity to react to the road. This makes both the ride and handling of the Chevy better than the Ford. For an even smoother ride and better handling the Silverado HD’s wheelbase is longer than the F-Super Duty’s.

Brakes and Stopping For better stopping power, the F-Super Duty’s rotors hail in comparison to the Silverado HD’s standard brake rotors. The Silverado HD’s superior rotor size and other factors allow it to stop shorter and faster than the F-Super Duty.

Tires and Wheels: The Silverado HD offers tires with better handling because they have a lower profile that gives a stiffer sidewall than the F-Super Duty’s optional tires.

Interior: The Silverado HD Regular Cab has more front headroom and more front legroom than the F-Super Duty Regular Cab. The Silverado HD Extended Cab also has more front head and leg room well as more rear head and leg room than the F-Super Duty SuperCab. The Silverado HD Crew Cab has more front room than the F-Super Duty SuperCrew. Thus, the Chevy Silverado HD is the more specious and comfortable choice than the Ford Super Duty. The Silverado HD has an all welded cargo box as opposed to the Ford Super Duty’s bolted cargo box. This means that the Silverado HD has a hugely reduced chance of having rust and corrosion throughout its life than the F-Super Duty

Convenience: When the Silverado HD LTZ reverses, both rearview mirrors tilt from their positions giving the driver better rearview vision. The F-Super Duty’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust when backing up. The Silverado HD LTZ has standard automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors that automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them. The F-Super Duty’s side mirrors don’t dim.

Awards: The Silverado was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Five Trucks” for 4 years! The F-Super Duty has never been a Car and Driver “Top Five Truck” pick. Motor Trend selected the Silverado as their 2011 Truck of the Year. The F-Super Duty has never been chosen as Truck of the Year.

Here at Art Gamblin Motors, we know that the Chevy Silverado HD is simply unparalleled in its territory of heavy duty trucks. So we invite you to come give the Chevrolet Silverado HD a test drive with us here in Enumclaw Washingtonand experience its massive level of power and performance for yourself. You can be sure to find a welcoming pressure-free environment staffed by friendly expert sales associates.
