Both half ton Tahoe and Suburbans have a Vortec 5.3L V8 engine with variable valve timing, active fuel management and FlexFuel capability. The LMG version of this engine uses and iron block while the LC9 which has an aluminum block. Both versions deliver 320 horsepower when running on gasoline and 326 horsepower when running on E85 ethanol mix. Active fuel management allows the engine to run on fewer cylinders when it doesn’t require its full capacity. This increases fuel economy. Variable valve timing increases performance and responsiveness while also increasing efficiency.2012 Chevrolet Tahoe engine  The ¾ ton Suburban uses a Vortec 6.0L V8 that offers 352 horsepower and also uses variable valve timing. Moreover, this tow capacity can be increased and enhanced with the Heavy-Duty Trailering Package, optional on half ton models and standard on the ¾ ton Suburban. All single rear wheel models of the Silverado HD include standard StabiliTrak stability control systems. Automatic lighting control and fog lamps are also available on the Silverado HD, making the truck even more visible while also increasing the driver’s visibility. The Silverado’s flat blade front windshield wipers with pulse washers help maintain clear driving visibility as well. Silverados are also equipped with interior rearview mirrors with manual day/night settings, auto dimming and available rearview camera systems. These effective mirrors greatly aid driver visibility.The Silverado’s Tire Pressure Information System monitors the tire pressure of each tire on the truck. If a tire is low on pressure a message is sent to the driver information system in the truck. This can help prevent safety issues related to low tire pressure. The Tire Pressure Information System is standard on all Silverado HD 2500 models.
