The Cruze offers two different powerful ECOTEC engines that use constant variable valve timing systems that insure high performance. While the Cruze is indeed one of the largest cars in its class it also has the best-in-class fuel economy! The standard LS Cruze has the 1.8L DOHC 4-cylinder engine. This powerful and efficient 138 horsepower engine grants 90% of its total torque over a broad spectrum from 2200-6200 rmp. This means that the Cruze grants excellent responsiveness and performance at any speed.
The ECOTEC 1.4L DOHC turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is standard on Cruze LT, Eco and LTZ. This engine gives you the excellent efficiency of a small displacement engine and the impressive power of the turbocharger, giving the Cruze the power usually reserved for much larger, less efficient vehicles. The turbocharger is integrated into the exhaust manifold, which makes its full power available without any delay. This 1.4L ECOTEC engine, while powerful and high performing, is also one of the most fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engines in the world! A 6-speed manual transmission is standard with the LS, LT and Eco Cruze. The expertly engineered synchronizers in this transmission make shifting easy and smooth, while offering multiple overdrive gears.

This automatic transmission is smooth and capable by itself and also has Driver Shift Control that allows the driver to use tap up and tap down manual shifting at will. Advanced adaptive shift controls in the transmission intelligently employ lower gears when slowing down or coasting on an incline. While all models of the Chevy Cruze achieve excellent fuel economy, the Cruze Eco maximizes fuel economy to the highest degree. This has made the Cruze Eco the most fuel-efficient gasoline-powered car in the United States with 42 miles per gallon on the highway. This is due to incredible aerodynamic design that offers a very low drag coefficient of 0.29; race car inspired underbody panels and electronically controlled air shutters to further increase aerodynamic efficiency. These are just a few examples of the many innovative features that allow the Cruze Eco to get such outstanding gas mileage, while still offering great power and performance.
