Mother Nature Controls Car Colors

Beyond the recent devastating effects of Mother Nature, she now is controlling car colors.  Chevrolet and other automotive manufacturers have announced shortages on some colors as a result of the Japanese tsunami.  The shiny pigment called Xirallic used in some auto paint is only produced in a single plant in Japan owned by Merck.  Auto manufacturers use Xirallic to give metallic paints a sparkling appearance.  If you are looking for a Chevy in metallic gray, taupe, red and bright blue, you better hurry in while there is a selection.  Most production of these colors have stopped.

Our hearts go out to those suffering from these natural disasters, whether earthquakes, tsunamis or tornados.  For some, not having a shiny metallic red car might be a daily reminder of the power of Mother Nature and the devastation she can cause.

Chevrolet Volt Owners and Their Fuel-Economy Stories

I’m sure many of you by now have either seen a Chevrolet Volt in person or seen one of it’s many commercials on T.V. I am also pretty sure many of you have asked yourselves, “Whats the big deal?” It seems as if every year some new car comes out and claims to be better than the one before it. But the ability to basically create your own fuel-economy, that really is a big deal.

Mike DiPisa of Lyndhurst, NJ has driven a total of 1,485 miles since taking delivery of his new Volt, not even filling up his gas tank. 1,391 of DiPisa’s miles traveled have been powered by electricity, giving him a staggering total fuel economy of 231 per gallons.

GM said the following in a press release: By recharging their Volt regularly, owners are easily surpassing the 93 miles per gallon equivalence, or MPGe, on full electric operation and an overall 60 MPGe composite fuel economy during extended-range operation. The EPA ratings make the Volt the most energy efficient compact car on the market today.

Gamblin Motors New Owners Clinic

We had agreat turn out for our most recent new owners clinic that was held on the 27th of January. More than thirty new car owners joined us in some awesome  food, tours around the dealership and a power point presentations from several members of our team here at Gamblin Motors.

Our service manager, Craig Clifford, spoke with some of our most recent customers about the importance of properly maintaining your vehicle both for their benefit as well as their vehicles. Our award winning Service Department and our technicians here at Gamblins are highly GM trained and are ready to fix any problem that might occur with your vehicle. Our Service Department not only just works on GM vehicles but they work on all makes and models.  Also on hand was our finance manager, Tom Rockwood, who spoke about the benefits of having a Gamblin Gold book. The Gamblin Gold book is a rewards program to keep your vehicle on a routine maintenance schedule.  Our customers who have purchased Gamblin Gold books love the benefits the book provides in savings.

To wrap up the night we broke into groups and gave our guests tours around the service and body shop facilities to familiarize them with the process when they come in for their service work. We had one of our master technicians, Dave Cooper, on hand to speak about some of the common tools mechanics at our dealership use on a daily basis.

We had a great time sharing what we do on a daily basis as well as giving some useful information that will help our customers in the future. We will be holding our next new owners clinic this coming May.  We will let you know what the exact date of the clinic will be and we hope to see you there.

Chevrolet Volt- Sooner Than Expected

Chevy Volt, Volt, Chevrolet Volt

Here it is the car that is supposed to save Chevrolet.  Most of you have probably heard of the award winning and ground breaking Chevrolet Volt.  General Motors has recently announced updated plans for the release of the new Chevrolet Volt, speeding up the rollout of Chevrolet’s newest vehicle by close to six months. Due to strong customer demand and consumer interest Chevrolet plans to double the production of the Volt from 60,000 units to 120,000 units.  You can say the GM and Chevrolet are ahead of the curve in the electric car race.  The Chevrolet Volt recently was awarded the 2011 North American Car of the Year due to its innovative features. Check out the map below to see when Chevrolet plans on releasing the Volt.

For those of you who may not be as familiar with the Chevy Volt, here is a quick run down provided by Chevrolet on what this vehicle has to offer. Plus we will be blogging about this car more in the future so this is not the last time you will hear us talking about the Volt. We look forward to having one here in our showroom in the near future and we will keep you posted on upcoming Volt news.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is powered by 16-kWh, “T”-shaped lithium-ion battery that powers the electric drive unit, which allows it to drive 40 miles on battery power alone. The system puts out 149-hp and a maximum torque of 273 lb-ft, allowing the Volt to go from 0-60 mph in about 9 seconds, hitting a top speed of 100 mph. The battery can be re-charged by plugging into a household outlet and takes 4 hours to recharge on 240 volts, and about 10-12 hours on a standard 120-volt outlet. The Chevrolet Volt also carries an 84-hp 1.4 4-clyinder engine that allows the five-door, FWD sedan to travel additional miles while averaging a fuel-economy of 50 mpg. A fully charged battery and full tank of gas will allow the Volt to travel 340 miles. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt gets an EPA estimated 93 miles per ’gallon-equivalent’ when driving under electric power only, 37 mpg when in gasoline mode and over the long term it is estimated to get 60 miles per gallon in combined gasoline-powered and electric-powered driving. Prices for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt start at $41,000 but with a full federal income tax credit (which range from $0 to $7,500), the Volt can cost a total of $33,500.  See  Chevrolet.com for more information.

Kid Rock: Cruisin’ “All Summer Long”… In His Brand New Chevy Camaro

When thinking of mega rock stars and the birthday presents they recieve, what would you expect them to recieve: a new house or a yacht? Probably. Better yet how about their  own exotic country that they can name after themselves? More than likely. How about a brand new custom 2011 SS Chevy Camaro? What…. thats… it?

Rock star Kid Rock will just have to live with the dissapointed not having an island named after himself for his birthday this year after recieving his brand new SS Chevy Camaro at his birthday concert in Detroit. Nascar drive Jimmie Johnson, who teamed up with Chevrolet, was there at Ford Field (Ironically enough) in person to unvail the custom Camaro. While Kid Rock is enjoying his new ride, we should all be thankful we don’t have to plan our next vacation to the country of Kid Rock, Scary right?

Custom Camaro, Chevy Camaro SS, SS Chevy Camaro

This really got us thinking here at the dealership. What kind of car would we want to be given for our birthday from Chevrolet? And when we really thought about it, the choice was simple: A brand new 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. This Corvette is an animal. With a supercharged LS9 V8 engine that pumps out 638- Horsepower and 604 lbs of torque and a top speed of 205 MPH, we could give a big “In your face” to Kid Rock and his Camaro.

Now we know that no one reading this is willing to put up the money to buy us our dream car, but hey,at lease we can test drive one when we want!
