Rumble in the Rockies: Silverado HD vs. Super Duty

With the proven Duramax Diesel and the brawny Allison Transmission, the new Silverado HD beats the competition in the field. Diesel Power Magazine and Pickuptrucks.com recently tested the Ford Super Duty with their new diesel and transmission against Silverado HD with the proven Duramax and Allison. Named the “Rumble in the Rockies” the one sided results crowned Chevy Silverado HD, King of the Mountain.

The magazine took both 1-ton Chevrolet and Ford pickups, hooked them to trailers with 18,900-pound loads and accelerated up I-70 in Colorado. Even though the horsepower and torque ratings are similar, in a real word setting the results weren’t even close.

Acceleration: “the Silverado made it through the quarter-mile more than 2 seconds quicker, achieved a top speed that was nearly 10 mph faster, and finished the entire climb more than 2 minutes ahead of the Ford. The Duramax performed significantly better at 11,000 feet of elevation as well pulling the 18,900 lb load at 47 mph, while the Ford slowed to 35 mph. Acceleration Test Winner: Chevrolet Silverado.”

The article continues, “The exhaust brake test brought out similar success for the Duramax and Allison combination. As we began our downhill run, the Ford descended the western slope well but required an average of 14 application’s of the truck’s brake pedal to hold the vehicle speed between 50-60 mph. Going downhill in the Chevy, the driver had far less work to do…. the Chevy only required 1 brake application for the entire 8-mile downhill run. While the difference in hillclimbing between the Chevy and Ford is impressive, the exhaust braking advantage of Silverado is staggering. Exhaust Brake Test Winner: Chevy Silverado HD.”

Gamblin Motors New Owners Clinic

We had agreat turn out for our most recent new owners clinic that was held on the 27th of January. More than thirty new car owners joined us in some awesome  food, tours around the dealership and a power point presentations from several members of our team here at Gamblin Motors.

Our service manager, Craig Clifford, spoke with some of our most recent customers about the importance of properly maintaining your vehicle both for their benefit as well as their vehicles. Our award winning Service Department and our technicians here at Gamblins are highly GM trained and are ready to fix any problem that might occur with your vehicle. Our Service Department not only just works on GM vehicles but they work on all makes and models.  Also on hand was our finance manager, Tom Rockwood, who spoke about the benefits of having a Gamblin Gold book. The Gamblin Gold book is a rewards program to keep your vehicle on a routine maintenance schedule.  Our customers who have purchased Gamblin Gold books love the benefits the book provides in savings.

To wrap up the night we broke into groups and gave our guests tours around the service and body shop facilities to familiarize them with the process when they come in for their service work. We had one of our master technicians, Dave Cooper, on hand to speak about some of the common tools mechanics at our dealership use on a daily basis.

We had a great time sharing what we do on a daily basis as well as giving some useful information that will help our customers in the future. We will be holding our next new owners clinic this coming May.  We will let you know what the exact date of the clinic will be and we hope to see you there.

Chevrolet Volt- Sooner Than Expected

Chevy Volt, Volt, Chevrolet Volt

Here it is the car that is supposed to save Chevrolet.  Most of you have probably heard of the award winning and ground breaking Chevrolet Volt.  General Motors has recently announced updated plans for the release of the new Chevrolet Volt, speeding up the rollout of Chevrolet’s newest vehicle by close to six months. Due to strong customer demand and consumer interest Chevrolet plans to double the production of the Volt from 60,000 units to 120,000 units.  You can say the GM and Chevrolet are ahead of the curve in the electric car race.  The Chevrolet Volt recently was awarded the 2011 North American Car of the Year due to its innovative features. Check out the map below to see when Chevrolet plans on releasing the Volt.

For those of you who may not be as familiar with the Chevy Volt, here is a quick run down provided by Chevrolet on what this vehicle has to offer. Plus we will be blogging about this car more in the future so this is not the last time you will hear us talking about the Volt. We look forward to having one here in our showroom in the near future and we will keep you posted on upcoming Volt news.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is powered by 16-kWh, “T”-shaped lithium-ion battery that powers the electric drive unit, which allows it to drive 40 miles on battery power alone. The system puts out 149-hp and a maximum torque of 273 lb-ft, allowing the Volt to go from 0-60 mph in about 9 seconds, hitting a top speed of 100 mph. The battery can be re-charged by plugging into a household outlet and takes 4 hours to recharge on 240 volts, and about 10-12 hours on a standard 120-volt outlet. The Chevrolet Volt also carries an 84-hp 1.4 4-clyinder engine that allows the five-door, FWD sedan to travel additional miles while averaging a fuel-economy of 50 mpg. A fully charged battery and full tank of gas will allow the Volt to travel 340 miles. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt gets an EPA estimated 93 miles per ’gallon-equivalent’ when driving under electric power only, 37 mpg when in gasoline mode and over the long term it is estimated to get 60 miles per gallon in combined gasoline-powered and electric-powered driving. Prices for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt start at $41,000 but with a full federal income tax credit (which range from $0 to $7,500), the Volt can cost a total of $33,500.  See  Chevrolet.com for more information.
