Mutual of Enumclaw Stage Race
Once a year cycling enthusiast from across the Pacific Northwest gather in Enumclaw to compete in one of Washington’s biggest and most competitive races. The Mutual of Enumclaw Stage Race is held yearly in May. With its beautiful scenic route and grueling inclines the MOESR draws a crowd of about 600 participants. The race was converted into a traditional timed stage race format in 2010. It is the only timed stage race an hour from Seattle, so not only does it bring in particapants from around the area but also Canada.
The race begins on Saturday with the very first lap following the road up to Mud Mountian Dam, which has a quick rise of 800 ft. each lap. The leg-burning speed is needed for the first lap to be kept out of elimination. Those who make it through to a spot in the criterium can expect a fun, action packed course. The criterium course runs through the heart of downtown Enumclaw. The day following an eight-corner technical criterium and time trail, the road race quickly cuts the participants down to an elite group. The race ends Sunday with 44 mile road race. The total prize purse is $10,000 and is awarded to the top three finishers.
Local residents love to come watch the race. The best place to catch the race is around the Enumclaw Library on Saturday evening. The Kids’ race begins at 5:00 pm and quickly following the Kid’s race you can catch the criterium. Registration for the Kid’s Race is held between 3:45-4:45 in the library parking lot. Be sure to watch for the Gamblin Motor’s pace car.

Serving at Full Bellies
One of our favorite ways to help out the plateau community is cooking and providing dinner for Full Bellies. Full Bellies offers a FREE hot meal for families and individuals in a warm environment. Meals are prepared every Thursday by various groups and companies in the Enumclaw community. Several times a year Gamblin Motor’s employees get to serve at Full Bellies.
Full Bellies was started by Colleen Michael, a stay-at-home mom, who didn’t want to see kids going to bed hungry. She had a vision to bring hot meals to families in need. With the help of Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation, Calvary Presbyterian Church, and volunteers from the community, her vision became a reality. Anyone is welcome and can get a hot meal every Thursday at Calvary Presbyterian Church starting at 5:30pm. Full Bellies needs community support; for information on how to volunteer contact Rene Popke at the Rainier Foothills Foundation. This is a great way to get involved and help fight hunger.

When The Stars Align
Just as a Chiropractor can align your spine to relieve a back ache, the suspension on your vehicle needs an alignment from time to time to prevent premature wear on tires as well as steering and suspension components. There are a handful of easy ways to determine whether our vehicle is in need of an alignment. If you have noticed one or more of these key indicators you should have your alignment checked by a licensed service technician immediately.
– Uneven tread wear
– Vehicle pulls to the left or right under braking
– Your steering wheel is off center when driving straight
– Steering wheel vibration
* Low tire pressure can also create some or all of these symptoms. Be sure to always check your tires for proper inflation.
What’s the difference between AWD, 4WD, RWD, and FWD?
Vehicles act differently on snow and ice depending on whether they have front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. With winter in full swing, We’d like to provide you with a brief spin through the options. Remember, almost every new vehicle from Chevrolet and Buick includes an electronic traction control system that intervenes automatically to improve performance in slippery conditions.
Front-wheel drive (FWD): Simply put, engine power is channeled to the front wheels to propel the vehicle. FWD is the most popular and prevalent system in the market because its compact setup enhances fuel efficiency and frees up more room inside the vehicle. Plus, the weight of the powertrain is concentrated over the driving wheels, so it offers good traction when it’s slippery.
Rear-wheel drive (RWD): As the name implies, engine power is sent to the rear wheels to propel the vehicle. In passenger cars, RWD reigned until the advent of FWD in the early 1980s. But RWD can more effectively handle higher engine power and higher vehicle weights, which is why it’s still favored in large trucks, larger performance vehicles, purpose-built race cars and law-enforcement pursuit use.
All-wheel drive (AWD): Don’t confuse all-wheel drive with four-wheel drive. Both engage all four wheels, but they’re designed and operate differently. Generally, an AWD drivetrain operates as a FWD or RWD system – most are FWD. AWD system pre-emptively sends power to front and rear axles on every launch to prevent wheel slip, then backs down if no slip occurs. Power is transferred automatically via a single-speed transfer case. (A transfer case connects to the transmission to split power between the front and rear wheels.) The beauty of AWD is no driver effort is needed to activate the system.
Four-wheel drive (4WD or 4×4): Four-wheel drive typically features a two-speed transfer case with high and low ranges for maximum traction. 4WD vehicles typically operate in RWD until four-wheel traction is required; and while most systems are driver-activated, many offer a setting that automatically engages the high range when it’s slippery. The driver must still engage the low range. Found in large, rear-wheel-drive trucks and larger SUVs with additional ground clearance compared to passenger cars and crossovers, 4×4 still provides the best traction and capability in off-road.
Buick’s New Reveals: Avenir and Cascada
At the North American Auto Show in Detroit, Buick unveiled two new stunning cars. The first to roll down the red carpet was the 2016 Buick Cascada Convertible. Buick has not manufactured a convertible in over a quarter of century, and this car is worth the wait. This new convertible four leather seated car offers Buick’s attention to detail and advanced technologies.
The Cascada will come equipped with OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot to keep you connected on the go. The top is a traditional fabric roof that can be lowered in 17 seconds while the car is moving at up to speeds of 31 mph. Heated steering wheel and seats will allow the driver to extend the top-down season. A turbo four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission will allow for a sporty drive. Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick said, “It’s a car that will delight customers with its fun spirit and help drive the momentum that’s fueling Buick’s success.” The Cascada is expected to hit our showroom in early 2016.
Everyone loves a surprise at an auto show and Buick delivered with the Avenir concept car. Avenir is French for future and this concept car suggests a future for the Buick brand that is exciting and luxurious. Building on Buick’s 112-year heritage, the Avenir concept strikes the pose for the future of Buick. The sedan was designed to catch your eye and it caught the eye of the auto show.
The Avenir was presented with the 2015 Eyes on Design Award for “Best Concept Vehicle” at the North American International Auto Show. “Avenir embodies Buick design, which enters on effortless beauty and presence without pretense,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of General Motors Global Design. Production information is still to be released, but we are looking forward to selling this beautiful car.
Stay Connected with GM’s new 4G LTE Wi-Fi
Internet in your car? It’s here. GM is the first and only car company to bring you 4G LTE Wi-Fi to cars, trucks, and crossovers. OnStar ushers in a new generation of connected vehicles. The industry’s deployment of 4G LTE equipped vehicles enables owners to explore new features like a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot capable of pairing seven devices. This hotspot pairs laptop computers, smartphones, video game consoles or tablets in and around the vehicle. 4G LTE Wi-Fi is the most reliable internet access on the go with a more powerful connection than smartphones and great signal quality and bandwidth. “Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac will be the first vehicle brands to market with 4G LTE connectivity offered on such a broad scale, and we’re excited to give millions of customers an opportunity to explore the technology without paying extra for a data plan for three months or three gigabytes,” said OnStar President Mary Chan. “We will begin to offer data plans and our customers will be able to connect for as little as $5 per month.” OnStar’s 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hardware come as standard equipment on the following 2015 models: Spark, Sonic, Cruze, Volt, Malibu, Impala, Corvette, Equinox, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado, Silverado, Encore, Verano, LaCrosse, Regal. Get ready for a whole new way to stay connected!
Take a Peek at the New 2016 Equinox
Chevrolet’s second-bestselling vehicle in North America is the Equinox. A lot of attention is giving to Chevy’s number one selling and award winning Silverado, but the Equinox accounts for over 9% of US sales in the compact SUV market. More than 242,000 were sold last year, so we shouldn’t be surprised that Chevy gave the Equinox a whole new look.
Chevy revealed the newly made over Equinox at the Chicago Auto Show in February. The all new 2016 Chevrolet Equinox is ready to step out with a whole new look, safety features, and connectivity options. Updates include new styling with premium accents, new wheel designs and new available safety features, as well as a larger color touchscreen radio and a standard rear-vision camera for entry-level models.
Most of the new design focuses largely cosmetics and tech options. The front fascia is now accented with a chrome dual-port grille design, new premium projector-beam headlamps, and new daytime running lamps. The engine choices for the Equinox are unchanged, and that is fine because the 2.4 liter direct-injection four–cylinder engine still makes it the most fuel-efficient engine in its class. The Equinox will still get its 32-mpg EPA highway rating, which is great for the family on the go.
Another great feature on the 2016 Equinox is OnStar with 4G LTE connectivity and built in Wi-Fi is offered across all models. This is the first compact SUV on the market to offer built in 4G LTE connectivity. To keep those kids happy, a new universal table holder is available to mount on the rear of the front seats. In addition to available Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety features, Equinox also offers Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning as part of comprehensive safety packages. The 2016 Equinox is expected to hit our showroom in the fall. We will keep you updated on its arrival.
Smart Fortwo Passion Coupe vs 2013 Chevrolet Spark Enumclaw Cars
Here at Art Gamblin Motors, your Enumclaw car dealer, we are very excited about Chevrolet’s new mini car: The all-new 2013 Spark! The Spark dominates the mini car segment with more available features, outstanding value and solid performance. The Spark’s superiority is apparent when compared to the Smart Fortwo Passion Coupe:
The Smart Fortwo is a 2-person vehicle available in three trim levels: Pure, Passion Coupe and Passion Cabriolet (convertible). An electric version is also available. All non-convertible, fortwo models have two doors and a liftgate. A rear-mounted 3-cylinder engine limits the Fortwo’s cargo-carrying capacity. There is no transmission choice with the Fortwo. All models feature an (automated manual) automatic transmission. There is no manual transmission available.
Chevrolet Spark Advantages vs. Smart for two Passion:
• 5-door body style. All Chevrolet Sparks are 4-door hatchbacks. All Smart Fortwo models have 2-doors. A 4-door body style is not currently available with for two.
• Longer wheelbase. A longer wheelbase contributes to a smoother ride. The Spark’s wheelbase is 20” longer than the Smart Fortwo’s wheelbase.
• More horsepower and torque. Spark’s engine has 15 hp more and 14 lb.-ft. of torque more than Smart Fortwo’s 3-cylinder engine.
• Transmission choice. Spark buyers have a choice between a manual or automatic transmission. All Fortwo buyers must settle for the for two’s only transmission.
• Less expensive fuel requirement. The Chevrolet Spark runs on regular unleaded gasoline. The Smart fortwo’s recommended fuel is premium unleaded, which is currently about 6% more expensive.
• Larger vehicle. The Spark’s interior is nearly twice as big as the Smart fortwo’s interior (86.3 cu. ft. vs. 45.4 cu. ft.).
• Cargo volume. Spark’s cargo area is over 30% larger than the Smart fortwo’s cargo area. A larger cargo area contributes to a vehicle’s versatility.
• Front seat comfort. The Spark has greater front shoulder and hip room than fortwo.
• Comfortable driving position. The Spark has a standard tilt steering column. The Smart fortwo steering column is fixed in one position without any tilt mechanism.
• Standard OnStar. Spark’s standard OnStar telematics system provides a suite of services including Automatic Crash Response, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Vehicle Diagnostics and much more. A telematics system is not available on Smart fortwo.
• MyLink Radio. The Smart fortwo has nothing comparable to Spark’s MyLink Radio with its embedded apps.
• Standard satellite radio. Satellite radio, with three months of service included, is standard on Spark. Satellite radio is not available on Smart fortwo.
• Bluetooth for phone and audio. Spark features Bluetooth for both phone and audio. Smart fortwo has available Bluetooth for Phone but does not offer Bluetooth for audio.
• Driver information. All Spark models include a standard Driver Information Center. This feature is not available with Smart fortwo Passion.
• Superior warranty peace of mind. The Smart fortwo 4-year/50,000-mile powertrain warranty can’t compete with the Spark’s 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
• Emergency roadside assistance. Spark owners receive the peace of mind of emergency roadside assistance for five years. Roadside assistance is not offered with Smart fortwo.
• Oil Life Monitor. This feature is not offered on Smart fortwo.
